The Ultimate Guide to Exfoliation

The Ultimate Guide to Exfoliation
Exfoliating is a crucial part of your skincare routine, targeting age-causing impurities to refresh your skin and leave it light and clear.

When we're in our younger years, our skin has a much higher rate of cell turnover and higher production of sebum, one of our natural oils. But as we age, our natural cell turnover slows down and can lead to dark spots, fine lines, and dry skin. That's why exfoliating becomes all the more important for mature skin.

Why do I need to exfoliate?

If you haven’t been exfoliating, your skin is really missing out on significant age-reducing benefits! When you exfoliate, you remove built-up dead skin. Normally, skin can handle shedding these cells itself, but as we age, our skin’s natural ability to do this starts to slow down.

By sloughing off dead skin cells, dirt, and makeup residue, exfoliation not only leaves you with brighter, silkier skin; it also provides a perfect surface for any serums, treatments, and moisturizers you apply to deeper penetrate your skin barrier and work more efficiently.

Properly exfoliating on a regular basis (once or twice a week) and getting rid of that dead skin helps to:

  • Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Restore dull, uneven skin tone
  • Improve the texture of rough, bumpy skin
  • Melt away impurities from pores
  • Provide stronger, longer-lasting hydration

Should I exfoliate chemically or physically?

No matter their skin type, everyone can benefit from exfoliating. Both chemically and physically exfoliating lead to brighter skin and minimized pores.

The difference between the two is that chemical exfoliators are formulated with acids and enzymes, which unglue dead skin cells. Physical exfoliators use small particles from beads, clay, bamboo, or even your washcloth to physically scrub away those cells along with any other debris and pollutants. These two exfoliating techniques complement each other to optimize your cleansing routine, resulting in your smoothest, brightest complexion.

Our BAMBOO REFINING POLISH is the best of both exfoliant worlds, providing a gentle and effective physical scrub with organic acids and enzymes to give you a healthier, reduced pore appearance.

How do I exfoliate?

A gentle, yet effective way to exfoliate is with our non-abrasive, exfoliating glycolic acid and fruit enzyme wash, our DEEP ENZYME CLEANSE! This unique cleansing treatment rejuvenates the skin’s surface, creating a noticeable radiance while making your skin look and feel remarkably soft.

STEP 1: APPLY

Apply 2 pumps on damp hands and rub together to activate the light enzyme foam. Apply on dry skin for better absorption, avoiding the eye area. (TIP: Apply before showering, steam activates the enzymes.)

STEP 2: MASSAGE

Gently massage in circular motions. Add a touch of water and continue to gently massage, concentrating on clogged areas. Your face may tingle from the active enzymes - don't freak out, this is completely normal!

STEP 3: RINSE & DRY

After massaging, rinse with lukewarm water and a soft washcloth, being gentle at all times. Pat dry with a soft towel to avoid irritating your skin.

STEP 4: ADDITIONAL

After using the CLEANSE, while your face is still warm, use your washcloth to gently press out any sebum (white or blackheads) that have become unclogged and surfaced around the corners of the nose and chin area.

Why should I exfoliate with fruit enzymes?

At In Your Face Skincare, we’re sure to use as many whole food ingredients and natural products as possible when formulating our products.

This is why our exfoliants, like our DEEP ENZYME CLEANSE, BAMBOO REFINING POLISHBLUEBERRY MASK, and PUMPKIN ENZYME MASK use the gentle and effective power of organic fruit enzymes to melt away impurities and buildup - NOT artificial ingredients that can harm your skin.

For a truly supercharged clean, mix our DEEP ENZYME CLEANSE or a dollop of one of our masks with the POLISH and leave on for 3-5 minutes, leaving you with a mid-week glow!

Glowing skin, all year round!

Exfoliating two to three times a week (depending on your skin type) with the help of natural fruit enzymes and gentle physical exfoliators clears the way for new cell development and a poreless glow.
