HOW TO DO AN AT-HOME FACIAL

HOW TO DO AN AT-HOME FACIAL

If you’re stuck at home, had a long day at work, or just want an excuse to use as many of your skincare products as you can, a DIY, at-home facial is a great way to give your skin a pick-me-up.

This facial we’re going to go through today provides everything you need to help deliver hydration, boost your skin barrier function, and soothe irritated skin, leaving you with a youthful, radiant glow.

The steps in this at-home facial include cleansing, exfoliation, facial massage, and excellent moisture to make the most out of your IN YOUR FACE SKINCARE lineup.

GETTING SET UP

Now this is where I get torn. I've never been a “silence your phone, turn on some calming music, put on your fluffiest robe” kinda gal. I’ll usually use the time to answer my hundreds of DMs, or listen to my favorite standup comedian or a business podcast…but I do LOVE my fluffy robe, as does my cat.

Next, take your CLEANSING CLOTHS and get near a faucet or have a bowl of warm water.

Pull your hair out of your face with our HAIR WRAP and you’re ready to get started.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

When it comes to your very own at-home facial, you’ll need

Cleanse: MOISTURIZING WASH

Exfoliate: DEEP ENZYME CLEANSE/BAMBOO REFINING POLISH

Tone: CITRUS CUCUMBER TONER/BLUE TANSY HYDRATING FACE MIST

Repairing Mask: Choose one (or a mix)

RADIANT DETOX MINERAL MASK

BLUEBERRY BOOST MASK

PUMPKIN ENZYME MASK

Rejuvenate: PLUMPING SERUM/BAKUCHIOL WONDER SERUM

Moisturize: CREAM/NOURISHING OIL

Face Yoga: GUA SHA STONE

One Last Boost: BLUE TANSY HYDRATING FACE MIST

1. CLEANSE

Start with our sulfate-free gel cleanser MOISTURIZING WASH. Cleansing is a crucial step in your skincare routine to help with removing makeup, toxins, and other impurities from your skin, allowing your skin to better absorb the ingredients yet to come.

When your skin is dry, apply 1-2 pumps to damp fingertips and gently apply in circular motions to your face, making sure to pull it down to your neck and decollete.

With warm water and one of our biodegradable CLEANSING CLOTHS, gently rinse your face and pat your skin dry using a clean towel.

Denice's Tip: Our cloths rinse clean, so don't get rid of it just yet!  You can use it throughout this routine and toss it when you’re done.

2. EXFOLIATE

The next step in your at-home facial routine is exfoliation. Exfoliating your skin helps to remove dead and dry skin cells, priming clear, youthful skin to come to the surface along with removing excess skin impurities.  You can choose either physical, chemical, or both when it comes to exfoliating,

Our DEEP ENZYME CLEANSE uses fruit enzymes along with the AHA, glycolic acid, to naturally “unglue” dead skin cells and unclog pores.

Our BAMBOO REFINING POLISH uses a super fine, safe, and gentle polishing powder to help you slough off dead skin cells and remove blackheads.

With the DEEP ENZYME CLEANSE, add 2 pumps to your hand and rub in circular motions all over your face and neck, avoiding the eye areas. Work the product in and leave for a few minutes to allow the enzymes to work their magic.  At this point, you can just go into the shower with a shower cap if it’s not a hair wash day, and let the steamy shower amplify the exfoliating enzymes and fruit acids.

With our BAMBOO REFINING POLISH, add 1-2 droppers full to your hands and gently but intentionally rub into your face, allowing it to slough away those skin impurities, then rinse with warm water and your CLEANSING CLOTH.

Denice’s Tip: After exfoliating, especially after showering, use the dry end of a towel to rub the skin around your nose, cheeks, and jawline, manually removing those sloughed-off skin cells and giving your skin a proper buff. Trust me, you’ll feel the difference!

3. TONE

Toning is an important step in your at-home facial experience because it helps rebalance pH while hydrating and calming your skin.

With a cotton pad, apply a splash or two of our CITRUS CUCUMBER TONER or BLUE TANSY HYDRATING FACE MIST and gently pat your skin to allow it to absorb. Let air dry to better absorb the next products in your facial and their active ingredients.

4. MASK

Your next step is to apply one of our masks. Masking is a skincare favorite of so many, and it’s not hard to see why.

Masks are a spa treatment at home, allowing active ingredients to deliver a rapid boost of hydration, moisture, or exfoliation, allowing in a short amount of time.

We have three high-quality masks, good for all skin types for you to choose from and alternate, including our “superfood smoothie for the face” BLUEBERRY BOOST MASK, resurfacing and pore-minimizing PUMPKIN ENZYME MASK, and our detoxifying dry powder-to-liquid RADIANT DETOX MINERAL MASK.

When it comes to our blueberry and pumpkin masks, take our MASK BRUSH (or your fingertips) and apply a thick layer over your face, avoiding the eyes. Let it sit on your skin for 5-7 minutes, then rinse.

If using our RADIANT DETOX MINERAL MASK, mix 1 tbsp of powder with ½ a tsp of liquid (water, honey, apple cider vinegar…) in our MASKING BOWL and activate until it’s creamy.

Apply a semi-thick layer all over your face with fingertips or our MASK BRUSH, avoiding the eyes. Let it dry for 8-10 minutes and rinse, making sure to massage your skin while you do it.

Wipe clean with a CLEANSING CLOTH and air dry to let the active ingredients seep in.

Denice’s Tip: While waiting for your mask to dry, use some HYDRATING CREAMY BODY OIL on your skin to make sure your skin barrier is moist all over.

5. REJUVENATE

Now it’s time to transform your skin with hydration and a healthy glow using our

highly-concentrated, collagen-boosting Vitamin C, hydrating Hyaluronic Acid, and brightening Shiitake mushroom PLUMPING SERUM formula to leave skin radiant, repaired, and rejuvenated, or our phyto-retinol BAKUCHIOL WONDER SERUM with ceramides to plump dull skin.

Once your mask is fully removed, apply 1-2 pumps of either serum onto your fingertips, pressing/patting the serum gently into your skin, including your face, neck, and decollete.

Denice’s Tip: Apply some to the back of your hands, they need love too! You can also mix the serums if you’re so inclined…

6. MOISTURIZE

Now it’s time to seal all of those actives and hydration into your skin with THE CREAM

With its rich, velvety texture and powerful ingredients to support anti-aging, this formula delivers a boost of long-lasting moisture that will give you that healthy, youthful glow.

Warm a very small amount between your fingers to warm it up, then gently massage and press onto your face and neck with upward strokes.

Denice's Tip: To add even more hydration and nourishment to your moisturizing step, follow up the CREAM with a drop or two of our NOURISHING OIL or even mix the two before applying.

7. FACIAL MASSAGE

What’s a facial without some face yoga?

Face yoga and massage with something like our GUA SHA STONE is a practice that goes back to traditional Chinese medicine, rejuvenating the skin by draining lymph fluid and increasing blood flow.

After applying the CREAM and/or NOURISHING OIL for some added slip, hold the stone flat to your skin under your eyes to flatten and de-puff.

Then, using a curved side of the stone on your face, take short strokes upward, going from your jawline and chin to around your mouth. Work in small horizontal strokes over your brow area, then stroke down the sides of your neck.

Denice Tip: Click here to see me demonstrate how to use our GUA SHA STONE!

8. ONE MORE BOOST

Finish off with a few spritz of our BLUE TANSY HYDRATING FACE MIST to seal in a last little bit of protective hydration, brightening antioxidants, and minerals to maintain that glow and shield against blue light.

AFTER….

Bask in the loveliness of your happy smooth skin and the money you saved by doing it all yourself! And remember, you can always do parts of these steps throughout the week.

For example, you can replace the exfoliation step with a quick PUMPKIN ENZYME MASK swiped on before going in the shower to achieve a deep clean in no time!
