A new season is coming, which means it's time to say goodbye to winter and hello to spring! And what’s one thing no one can escape during the spring season?

That’s right - Spring Cleaning! And pollen…ugh… Tip: add a tsp of local honey into your diet, because local bee’s honey will strengthen your immunity to the trees and flowers. And if possible, add some bee pollen to top off your coffee……You're welcome ;)

Now that the warmer days of spring are fast approaching, it’s time to give your skincare routine a spring cleaning of its own! That’s why we’ve put together the strongest steps to make sure you’re treating your skin the right way heading into the new season.

Read on to learn more!

GIVE YOUR COUNTER AN EDIT

The first thing to do when spring cleaning your skincare routine is to take a look at your bathroom counter and edit your collection. Take a look at your products, tools, go through everything!

Check expiration dates, see if you have any duplicate products, and check to see if anything just looks gross and needs to be thrown away to make room for the things you love and use consistently. A good rule when editing your collection is, if you haven't used it in two years, let it go!

Check your tools and make sure they’re all clean and still function properly.

TIP: Grab your makeup brushes and squirt some of our plant-based MOISTURIZING WASH in your palm and swirl away the dirt and grease from your brushes. This way, you can clean them safely without needing any irritating brush cleansing chemicals.

Make sure your hairbrush is clear and that the bristles aren’t broken. Check your eyelash curler too. It just takes a quick moment but it makes you feel ALIVE to have clean things, right?!

Now that you’ve cleaned up your counter and skincare collection, we can get into how to update your skincare routine for the spring environment!

COMMON SPRING SKIN CONCERNS

During the winter, dry air attacks your skin day in and day out. This pulls moisture from your skin and can lead to dry and dead skin cells, while disrupting your skin’s natural barrier. So, by the end of the winter, many people are dealing with:

DULL SKIN

When skin cells are dehydrated, light won’t reflect quite like it does off of healthy, hydrated skin cells, leaving skin looking dull.

NECK IRRITATION

The neck has some of the thinnest skin on your body, so it’s already pretty sensitive. Between the cold, dry air pulling moisture from your neck and the sweaters and scarves that scratch it, it's no surprise that many people end up with a skin rash, redness, or irritation on their neck by the end of winter.

PRONOUNCED FINE LINES/WRINKLES

Dehydration in your face, especially around the eyes and forehead, can make existing fine lines and wrinkles even more pronounced. Dehydration can even cause new fine lines to appear.

CLOGGED PORES

Regardless of your skin type, your skin will produce sebum, natural oil. Without the proper skincare routine, the dryness caused by the winter air can create a layer of dry/dead skin cells on the surface of the skin that can trap oil and dirt your pores and create a bumpy texture.

SENSITIVITY

When your moisture barrier is compromised, moisture will escape your skin while toxins and pollutants work their way in. This leaves skin feeling sensitive and it can even sting in the wind or when applying products.

5 WAYS TO ADJUST YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE FOR SPRING

1. DON’T FORGET YOUR CLEANSER

No matter what time of the year, the first step of your skincare routine  should ALWAYS be cleansing your skin! Instead of alcohol-based cleansers (which dry out your skin), try a water-based cleanser like our MOISTURIZING WASH to remove dirt and sweat, an all-natural plant-based formula that moisturizes while cleansing without disturbing your protective moisture barrier.

For stubborn makeup or SPF, try our oil-based MANDARIN MELT CLEANSING BALM!

2. LOOK AT YOUR MOISTURIZERS

With dry, cold air constantly assaulting your skin during the winter, it’s important to use a heavier moisturizer to lock in moisture and provide hydration that lasts all day.

As the weather warms up and we go from dry, cracked skin to oily, sweaty skin, you may consider a lighter moisturizer for the day, like our oil-balancing, mattifying MARINE PEARL CREAM if you have naturally oily skin.

But mature and dry skin needs year round hydration and a thicker moisturizer like our rich, nourishing CREAM will protect, heal, and plump your skin while your skin is getting exposed to air conditioned rooms and dry hot climates.

3. KEEP PORES CLEAR BY EXFOLIATING

Just like cleansing, you should always make sure to exfoliate 2 to 3 times a week. Exfoliation is crucial for rejuvenating your skin health, removing dead skin cells to allow for new ones to take their place and restore that healthy glow.

You can do so with a chemical exfoliator like our DEEP ENZYME CLEANSE that uses glycolic acid and natural pineapple enzymes to gently peel away dead cells…

Or a physical exfoliator like our BAMBOO REFINING POLISH that uses salicylic acid along with a superfine, gentle polish that does the same while buffing skin for a finer, healthier texture.

If you have sensitive skin that tends to break out or is easily irritated, start with exfoliating once a week to gently remove dead skin cells and help your delicate skin breathe and heal easily. And then work your way up to 2 or 3 times a week.

4. NOURISH WITH ANTIOXIDANTS

When it comes to keeping skin healthy, with that youthful glow we all strive towards, finding products with plenty of antioxidants is a great start. Antioxidants are compounds typically found in plants that protect your skin from damage caused by free radicals and other environmental aggressors.

  • Vitamin C - The must-have daily skin-protecting ingredient, for ALL skin types
  • Manuka Honey- Mother Nature's ultimate moisturizer and anti-bacterial ingredient
  • Green Tea- Loaded in polyphenols for glowing skin
  • Ginger Root - A natural adaptogen and skin superhero

5. THROW IN SOME BAKUCHIOL (PLANT-BASED RETINOL)

A natural alternative to the harsher ingredient of retinol, bakuchiol is a plant-based skin stimulator, kickstarting cellular turnover, reducing signs of aging, and balancing tone/texture. This is a spring lifesaver for all types of skin, but Especially sensitive, since it causes NO irritation, even when facing UV rays and pollution.

Our BAKUCHIOL WONDER SERUM contains this wonder retinol alternative along with intensely-hydrating hyaluronic acid and skin-fortifying ceramides!
